The
important bit !!
-
Popham radio frequency
is 129.800 and is Air to Ground only
-
N.B. The Rules! It is
a CAA requirement as CAP413 now includes the paragraph:
"It is correct
procedure to announce identity on all telephone calls: with incoming
calls it is the opening remark and with outgoing calls it is the reply
to the recipient’s announcement of identity. FISOs and AGCS operators
must never identify themselves as '....air traffic control'."
Popham
radio is Air/Ground and as such is NOT Air Traffic "Control", however the
generic term "ATC" is widely used as everyone seems to understand this
abbreviation! Even Solent Radar, Farnborough, Lasham, Boscombe,
Odiham, etc., still call us on the phone and ask for "ATC"!
Perhaps we should just use "AT"!
We get numerous
calls asking for us to correct the "ATC" question so before you write in
again the answer is the same - all we can do is repeat the above!
-
Our radio
operators will transmit any information relevant to maintain the safety of
the aircraft and the airfield.
-
Radio operating
hours are from 08:30 until 17:00 (or Sunset if earlier).
-
The standard Landing
Fee for non- members is £5.00 for singles and £10 for twins (no landing fee for weather related diversions).
Glider retrieval will incur a combined charge of £10.00 for the glider and the
tug aircraft landing. We would appreciate it if you could please leave
your £5.00 landing fee in an envelope (with registration) posted through the
Clubhouse door (opposite the toilets) if you have permission to arrive after we are closed.
-
Overnight parking fee
is £5.00 / night (no charge for weather related diversion parking).
-
Flying is allowed
by prior permission in the
summer up until 20:00 Local (n.b. this is a planning deadline!),
or Sunset if earlier. After this,
other traffic may often pass you advisory arrival information. Remember there is a signals square
just next to the club house but this may not have been changed if we
have gone home!
-
We can advise on
Flight Plans, Special Branch, and Customs clearances. The common standard form
to be used for all three departments available
from ATC. See also, useful numbers below.
- "ATC" also hold up to date
copies of the ANO and all AIC's

So who am I talking to
on the radio?
Our ATC people
all have CAA licences and some are retired CAA Controllers. They generally
have their "favourite" days to be on duty but as they are volunteers, they
sometimes swap around according to their personal engagements.
