Motorcycle Matters

The airfield is “biker friendly” and this largely due to the fact that the airfield manager is a lifelong motorcyclist and encourages bikers to visit the airfield.  On the Fly-In weekends – generally the second Sunday of each month – several bike clubs (including the Ducati Sporting Club (see also http://www.snellmotorcycles.com) and the Suzuki SV Club) meet at the airfield for a cuppa and chat and in August, the Bike Mega-meet and Jumble is one of the motorcycle Meets of the Year.  Any bike clubs wishing to start or finish a ride at Popham, contact Dick at the airfield.  If you do meet at the airfield, please no wheelies or burnouts and please ride slowly right down to the clubroom where you will be made most welcome.

There are plans to organize some sunny Sunday bike rides in 2008. These could start from, or end up at Popham, depending on the chosen route.  John Grover has been volunteered by Dick to make things happen, and some of you have been contacted to collect email addresses so we can arrange places to go and lunches to eat.  Those who made it on a run in the past, kindly and very well organized by Pat and Don, will know how enjoyable the events are.  The usual destinations such as Sammy Millers, the Mayfly near Stockbridge, the Maybush near Abingdon, the Flower pots at Cheriton,,,,will be on the list, but feel free to add your favourites.  It is the route, and the destination that is important.  We could also ‘go on a picnic’ run to somewhere obscure, i.e. without a pub or tea room, (but thinking about that might not be such a good idea after all)!  Some of you might be in the National Trust or know of mutually ‘interesting’ museums or other heritage organizations, and these might open up other interesting destinations.  Flying clubs, of course, can be good places to get to in time for lunch.

Do we need a name for this proposed group?  How about Popham Motorbikers’ Tours……..hmmm, thinks, this is PMT, so, perhaps not!  Anyone got a better name?  The person who comes up with the best name of the group is the winner and buys the beer on the first run.  So, start thinking where to go, and if you have friends, sorry, I mean, if you have friends who might want to join in, then please invite them along.  Via the power of the emails, anyone showing interest in this will be contacted, and we will make the first run a gentle one, maybe in Feb if we get a forecast for a dry and not too cold Sunday.

For any interest in the above please contact:
