Popham’s evening BBQ fly-ins have a laid-back, old-school atmosphere and are a popular social gathering for pilots, aviation enthusiasts, and locals alike.
What to expect
Once parked up (we have plenty of parking, including hard standing for motorcycles), head over to the apron where you’ll be able to get up close to all kinds of aircraft, ranging from vintage Tiger Moths to modern microlights, gyros and flexwings. Many of the pilots are more than happy to speak to anyone about their aircraft but please be respectful at all times and don't touch any of the aircraft unless you have permission from the owner. Please also be aware that aircraft will be coming and going at all times so pay attention to the marshalls and listen to any instruction given by them.
When you’ve had your fill of aircraft (for now anyway), follow the smell of the grill and head to the café where you can grab a plate of freshly cooked BBQ food, including burgers, sausages, salad and coleslaw.
Everyone is welcome - you don’t have to fly in - many people arrive by road to watch the aircraft and enjoy the food.

All aircraft to depart before sunset
- PPR for evening fly-in events is essential to manage traffic and food expectations. All pilots please inform the radio desk of your intention to fly in on 01256 397733, option 1.
- Popham has specific noise-sensitive areas so please check the latest information for pilots and fly the circuits accurately.
- These are strictly daylight events. Popham is a grass airfield without runway lighting, so all aircraft must depart before sunset.
