EVERYONE WELCOME

by air or road

Popham’s evening BBQ fly-ins capture that classic, easygoing airfield spirit - a brilliant gathering point for pilots, aviation fans, and locals alike.

What to expect

Once parked (there’s ample space, including hard standing for motorbikes), make your way over to the apron for a proper look at an eclectic mix of aircraft - from vintage Tiger Moths to modern microlights, gyrocopters, and flexwings. Most pilots are delighted to chat about their machines, but please treat the aircraft with care and only touch if the owner gives permission. With planes operating throughout the evening, keep an eye out and always follow the marshals’ lead.

Whenever you're ready for a break from the flight line, just follow your nose for hot food straight off the grill - including burgers, salads, and coleslaw.

Everyone is welcome, whether you arrive by air or by road. You certainly don't need a pilot’s licence to come down, soak up the atmosphere, and enjoy good food by the runway!

All aircraft to depart before sunset

  • PPR for evening fly-in events is essential to manage traffic and food expectations. All pilots please inform the radio desk of your intention to fly in on 01256 397733, option 1.

  • Popham has specific noise-sensitive areas so please check the latest information for pilots and fly the circuits accurately.

  • These are strictly daylight events. Popham is a grass airfield without runway lighting, so all aircraft must depart before sunset.
