Incident at Popham Airfield Involving Flexwing Microlight

POPHAM, HAMPSHIRE - Popham Airfield management can confirm that an incident involving a flexwing microlight aircraft occurred on site yesterday evening, Sunday 23rd August, at approximately 18:00.
The incident occurred during landing. The sole occupant of the aircraft was a student pilot. Emergency services responded promptly to the scene, and the pilot was subsequently transported to Southampton General Hospital for medical care.
Our immediate thoughts and support are with the pilot and their family during this difficult time. We also extend our sincere gratitude to the emergency services and airfield first responders for their swift, professional actions and dedicated care.
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has been notified and is conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Popham Airfield is fully cooperating with the authorities and will remain closed to all aircraft movements until the preliminary investigation is concluded and operations can safely resume.
